About Shravan Month — Traditions & Observance
Shravan (Sawan), the fifth month of the Hindu calendar, is the holiest month for Lord Shiva. Every Monday of Shravan (Shravan Somvar) millions of devotees fast and offer water, milk and bilva leaves to the Shiva Linga. Kanwariyas carry sacred Ganga water on foot to Shiva shrines. The month also holds Hariyali Teej, Nag Panchami, Raksha Bandhan and Krishna Janmashtami — making it the most festival-dense period of the year. Green is worn, swings are hung, and the monsoon is welcomed as a blessing.
