Shraddha & Tarpan — Honouring Ancestors

Shraddha is the ritual offering to departed ancestors (pitrs), performed on the death tithi each year and collectively during Pitru Paksha, the sixteen-day fortnight before Navratri. Tarpan — water offering with black sesame and kusha grass — is offered facing south, and Brahmins are fed in the ancestors’ names.
