About this chalisa — Hanuman
A Chalisa is a devotional hymn of forty verses (from the Hindi word "chalis", meaning forty) written in praise of a deity. Chalisas are composed in simple, melodious Awadhi or Hindi so that every devotee can memorise and sing them. Reciting a Chalisa regularly is believed to remove obstacles, grant courage, and invoke the deity’s protection over the household.
How to chant
Chalisas are traditionally recited in the morning after a bath, or in the evening at the family altar. Tuesday and Saturday are considered especially auspicious for Hanuman Chalisa, while other Chalisas are sung on the deity’s special day. Recite with a steady rhythm; many families conclude with an aarti and distribution of prasad.
