Reading guide

  • Verses 1–8 form the eight-verse hymn. Each returns to the salutation “महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तुते”, meaning “Mahalakshmi, salutations to you”.
  • Verses 9–11 are the concluding phala-shruti: traditional statements about the fruits of recitation. They are distinct from the eight verses that give the hymn its name.
  • Read one numbered verse at a time and pause at the repeated salutation. The traditional devotional statements are not guarantees of wealth, health or other outcomes.
