Reading guide
- The opening stanza introduces Maiya carrying two water pots. Later stanzas return to “मैया मोरी पनिया”, the refrain about going to fetch water.
- The middle verses use questions and replies: what the pot and clothing are made from, who her parents are, and whose consort she is.
- The closing stanza turns from description to devotion, with the singer remembering Maiya and asking to keep attention at her feet.
