About Diwali Season — Traditions & Observance
The Diwali season is a five-day arc of festivals: Dhanteras (invoking prosperity, buying metal), Naraka Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali (early-morning oil bath, lamps), Diwali itself — Lakshmi Puja at dusk with rows of diyas — then Govardhan Puja (honouring Krishna’s lifting of the hill) and Bhai Dooj (the bond of brother and sister). Homes are cleaned and decorated, rangolis drawn, sweets exchanged, and accounts books worshipped for the new financial year.
